The truth behind Tibet?

This afternoon I found an article about how China is reacting to all the pressure from other countries, as well as many people who are convinced that journalists are displaying China in the wrong light. China is trying to show the world that it has the Tibet conflict under control and that more than 660 had surrendered.

The Dalai Lama agrees that it is a good idea for journalists to be covering the issue, but he warns that they should educate themselves. “In the meantime, I think the correspondents should also know the background of the events taking place there. Otherwise, there is always the possibility of artificial publicity.”

There is still a lot of confused facts concerning who is at blame, China or Tibet. Tibet claims that there are 140 dead because of the conflict, while China claims there are 20, 19 in Lhasa. Journalists are not permitted to go into China or parts heavily populated by Tibetans, which makes it difficult to confirm just who is telling the truth.

China is also saying that the Dalai Lama has something to do with the protests.

The French are still supporting a boycott of the Olympics in Beijing. The French have also expressed a desire to talk to the Dalai Lama concerning the conflict. China is opposed to any outside country meeting with the Dalai Lama. Many other countries do not support the boycott of the Olympics.

I found this article here.
